UNC-Chapel Hill became formally associated with the BTWH network in 2013, the same year in which the conference "Speculation" was hosted at UNC. The group has received financial support from the UNC Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Duke German Department, Carolina Seminars, the UNC Center for Global Initiatives, the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies, and the DAAD. The participants in the group include faculty members as well as graduate students in the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies. Meetings are held on a monthly basis, and membership is open to all those who have interests in interdisciplinary work exploring issues of modernity in German-language contexts.
